I am not gonna lie there was a few minutes there when I was truly fantasizing about getting out. Then, through a whole lot of tears I saw the video of you leading the crowd on the floor shouting these words. All I could think was "What the hell am I thinking. Look at our Will. The Rocky Mountain Conference of the UMC voted last weekend to send a petition to General Conference asking for the deletion of the part of the Discipline that prevents pastors from celebrating unions between same sex couples. The petition passed easily in my legislative committee, and I am hopeful (and prayerful) that in 2012 the General Conference will finally be able to allow individual pastors to follow their consciences and the guidance of the Holy Spirit in these matters.

Good question: there are TWO Bishops Lee! Bishop Linda Lee is the Bishop of Wisconsin. Bishop Clay F. Lee Jr., a retired bishop, served as the "judge" of this case. So there are two Bishops with the same last name. This post only refers to Bishop Clay F. Lee, the judge. Bishop Linda Lee was only present in the court room once - when she opened the proceedings. Although seen on campus beyond that, I do not believe she witnessed any of the proceedings first hand.

One initial thought in the overwhelming emotions and swirl of things in my mind upon reading your blogs about the trial: isn't asking a colleague about their sex life, repeatedly and unwanted, a clear instance of sexual harassment? Since in the Methodist connection Amy and the church lawyer are colleagues, doesn't his repeated and unwelcome questions regarding her sex life constitute sexual harassment, even if it is in the context of a court trial?

Thank you for your awesome blog post covering the second day of Amy's trial. It was informative, inspiring, funny and profound. I loved how Dr. Wogaman invoked the teachings of John Wesley and Jesus and explained that, "breaking the law is an essential part of our faith." Great work Pastor Will!
